About Us
Advocacy International Ltd was launched in late 2004. We specialise in working with low-income country governments, and with organisations working to promote positive development, investment and environmental sustainability in those countries.
We undertake strategic research and analysis; and devise national and international advocacy strategies using the full range of communication tools. In 2005, Advocacy International Ltd. advised the Debt Management Office of Nigeria, and played a supporting role in ensuring $18bn debt cancellation for that country.
We also advised organisations like the Global AIDS Alliance (Washington), the Global Fund for AIDS (Geneva); The Archbishop of Cape Town on a new project "African Monitor" and Operation Noah (a climate change campaign, based in London).
Our executive director, Ann Pettifor, led and developed an international advocacy campaign, which Bill Clinton called "a big tent" and the World Bank described as one of the most successful ever - Jubilee 2000. In just four years, Jubilee 2000 campaigners persuaded G8 leaders to cancel $50bn of debts owed by 42 countries, and put third world debt at the top of the global political agenda - where it remains today. The Jubilee 2000 model of building a worldwide coalition and making good use of cutting edge technology and communications, has since served as a template for other campaigning coalitions, including "Make Poverty History".
