Tomoo Machiba
As well as advising and working with Advocacy International Tomoo is a Senior Consultant to the UNEP/Wuppertal Institute on Sustainable Consumption and Production (CSCP) (www.scp-centre.org). His main specialisms include the development of sustainable consumption and production policies and implementation tools for policy makers in developing countries, the exploration of options to improve transparency in the product value chain and to encourage consumers to make conscious choices, research in the field of scaling up sustainable design, architecture and spatial planning initiatives, etc. From October 2002 he worked as a Programme Manager for the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) www.globalreporting.org . His main responsibilities included the co-ordination of the development of the GRI sustainability reporting framework and the stakeholder engagement process. Earlier in his career he was involved in a series of projects with SustainAbility Ltd. From 1999 to 2001, he worked for the Jubilee 2000 Coalition and Drop the Debt as a special advisor on Japan.
Tomoo Machiba was awarded an MPhil in Development Studies from the Institute for Development Studies, University of Sussex. Later he continued academic research on sustainable production and consumption at the Department of Geography, University College London, in parallel to his job assignments.
Tomoo Machiba is a Japanese national.
