Wanja Njehu Githendu
Wanja Githendu was born and educated in Kenya where she completed a degree in history and literature. Before she came to the UK she worked with women's groups in Kenya, and then with Wangaari Mathaai (who later won the Nobel Peace Prize) at the Greenbelt movement. (Greenbelt is a movement of women planting trees in areas of soil erosion in Kenya. www.greenbeltmovement.org ) She is a member of Daughters of Mumbi, a grassroots organisation in Kenya.
In 1997 she joined Jubilee 2000 as a volunteer. She was promoted to the Africa department, where she supported advocacy campaigns in Africa. She then became PA to Ann Pettifor, Director of Jubilee 2000. She has worked at Advocacy International since its inception as Office Manager.
