Halfway towards the deadline for the Millenium Development Goals, there is new determination to meet MDGs 4 (reducing child mortality) and 5 (reducing maternal mortality). This is reflected in the development of a Global Business Plan for MDGs 4 and 5, involving the Norwegian Development Aid Agency (NORAD), the UK Treasury, the UK Department for International Development (DFID) and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

A key initiative of the Global Business Plan is the development of an Advocacy Plan to generate political support for attaining MDGs 4 and 5. Advocacy International has been working with Options Consultancy on mapping and analysing opportunities for this advocacy work in Japan, Norway, UK, Pakistan, Orissa and Tanzania.

Advocacy International attended a meeting of the Partnership for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health in July 2007 hosted by UNFPA in New York, preparing for the launch of the Global Business Plan by Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg of Norway.
